Should Cars Be Recycled?
The environment has become one of the major concerns of governments and international groups today. With the changes in the environment brought by the greenhouse effect, many people have started to take the grim scenario seriously. From corporate boardrooms to political arenas, policies on promoting environmental protection have had more traction. One such sector that has started to make progress is the automotive sector, which admittedly is directly responsible for the expulsion of fumes that add to the greenhouse effect destroying the environment. However, there have been steps to minimize vehicles' effects on the environment and companies have come up with many solutions.
An old car could create more pollution than a new one. Understandably, older car models were made before environmental considerations took prime spot in priorities so these cars made more smoke and consumed more gas. These cars do not have features as the ones today have. They do not have emission control nor are they fuel-efficient. In addition, up until their death, these cars can still pollute as their components like gas, plastic, and fluid could damage their immediate environment.
Cars and fuels are one of the biggest contributors to climate change. The emissions from burning diesel, oil, and gasoline create carbon dioxide, a kind of gas that causes the greenhouse effect. The smoke from cars or any kind of vehicle is the source of air pollution. If you live in a city and wake up really early in the morning, you might see smog hanging over the city. This smog hangs like a roof over a city, which makes the heat rise and the air dirty. If you live in a city where people drive more than they walk, you might be inhaling part of the smog.
Smog is a mixture of bad polluted air and fog. This looks like a dark grey cloud that is hanging over a city or an area. Smog has adverse effects on one's health. It causes a number of lung diseases which children are especially prone to. Even adults are not spared by smog and air pollution as they also develop lung diseases. Some city dwellers' immune system also weakens the longer the stay in the city breathing in its dirty air.
Remember, as a car ages, its fuel burning capacity diminishes. This means as years go by, the car churns out pollution and is unable to burn gas as efficiently. A relatively new car produces carbon dioxide twice its weight but over the years, it can produce as much as four times of its weight.
If you are an owner of a car that is really old and useless, you could contact your local junk yard or scrap yard for proper car disposal. While you may be attached to your car, you are doing more harm than good. Your car causes pollution and harms the health of those around you. There are pretty good reasons why you should let it go and let it rest in peace and go to car heaven.
